The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

Nice shout out for the Griz! I think that I am the only person around who hasn't joined one of these pools. I did just read an article about how these pools are only legal in Montana, Oregon, New Jersey and Nevada (because they got grandfathered into a federal law). So Clairie, you are breaking the law in your state with your new addiction...hehe.
